Jon Snow isn’t smiling in ANY of the promo pics when Emilia is at least back to her beautiful self in the latest EW promos. At this point I’d have asked Kit to at least allow himself a smile for the promos. I understand that in the snow and the cold it’s a bit difficult. Neither of them were at their best then. But in these ? I might not stan the pairing but he and Emilia ARE beautiful people so a smiling picture would work better and sell better. I don’t understand why they’d allow him to look so depressed or upset. Unless they’d really want to cash on the brooding looks.
In any case, this has me SO HYPED for the battle of Winterfell aka Battle for the Dawn. Miguel has done a wonder with Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards is my top number 1 GOT episode so I trust him fully to deliver on this one. I decided to use a burning Winterfell for my Season 8 poster but this got me questioning - do we know if the battle takes place at night or during the day ? Miguel directed two battles that took place during the day. Each time he used a very gray and grim palette and the White Walkers bring the storm with them so obviously the battle will not take place under the sun. But somehow I cannot see the battle of Winterfell taking place during the day… or a snow storm like during Hardhome. Or even like Beyond The Wall. The spoilers showed Winterfell burning at night and that’s what I’d go for too. Night narratively offers more possibilities, more sources of fear and confusion, creating tension (for a kidnapping to take place ?) Plus if/when Winterfell burns, fire is better rendered at night. Plus if this is the Battle for the Dawn what better way cinematographically than to end it by having an actual dawn ?

Other known participants include Jon and Dany of course, and Arya and Sansa but really I think the majority of the cast will be involved. That means Jaime, Brienne, Pod, Davos, Tyrion, Varys, Jorah, Missandei and Greyworm as well. It will be very interesting to see how Miguel divides the time allowed to them and how they are paired, who survives and who tragically dies - because yes this time it’s OBVIOUS that we’re losing people oh my god im just realising this as i write it and at this point it IS going to be tragic - and how they find themselves in position for the rest of the season. Obviously Jon and Dany will fight the Night King but where Bran and Jaime fit is less obvious. Arya will do some confirmed fighting as well but as much as she’d like to fight alongside Jon, I honestly don’t see her getting far from Sansa or Bran, neither of which can physically defend themselves. Perhaps Sam will be with them with Gilly. Jaime, Pod, Brienne and perhaps Tyrion, I would see together. Jorah, maybe with Greyworm, or maybe with Jon and Sandor ? And how does Winterfell burn ? Does Viserion burn it or does he fight off with Drogon and Rhaegal and the fire is collateral damage ?
